What we do
We find lawyers, are in contact with families, provide support for people in prison and accompany and document cases and court proceedings. We also organize public relations work and campaigns.
Legal Support
We are funding legal fees for vulnerable individuals who are in financial, psychological, or physical need and are accused of facilitation. This includes lawyer, court costs, expert witness fees (if specialized testimony is needed) interpreter/translator fees (if language assistance is required), witness compensation (for travel, accommodation etc.), forensic reports, medical reports…
Trial Observation
We observe and report on court proceedings across various European countries. The aim is to make court processes more transparent and structurally comparable. Our presence in the courtroom also serves as a form of support for the accused. The findings from our court monitoring are also used for advocacy and campaign work.
Family Support and Prison Contact
We serve as a point of contact for families of individuals in prison accused of smuggling, helping them navigate possible options and providing guidance. While we do not offer professional social or psychological services, we facilitate transnational communication with lawyers and loved ones, offer emotional support, and assist with basic needs—trying to ease some of the burden on those affected.
Documentation and Research
We gather information on the issue of smuggling, sometimes in collaboration with other (local) groups and associations like Porco Rosso in Sicily or the Human Rights Legal Project (Samos), Legal Centre Lesvos und Aegean Migrant Solidarity in Greece.
Public Awareness
We share our findings through reports, our website, and social media, as well as in workshops and presentations to raise public awareness. Explore our previously published articles, radio features, and reports here! We work to challenge dominant narratives around smugglers, highlight the realities of facilitation, and advocate for the de:criminalization of facilitation, the freedom of movement for all, and the abolition of all deadly borders rooted in racism and violence.
